Pension credit
Using information from the National Pensioners Convention, we issued a leaflet encouraging people to apply for Pension Credit. This was distributed to local libraries, community centres and local medical centres. We also checked that all our local councils were identifying people who potentially could apply for Pension Credit and are pleased to say that they are.
Along with a colleague from the Brent Pensioners Forum, we raised the issue with one of our local MPs at a One Kilburn meeting.
A vanishing bus shelter
Local people were surprised to find that most of a well-used bus stop in Cricklewood Broadway that serves five routes was removed. The stop was still there, but the shelter was gone. We found out that it had been hit by a vehicle and had to be removed because it was dangerous. We have already contacted Transport for London about this, urging them to replace it as soon as possible.
Publicly accessible toilets
We welcome Age UK London launching London Loos – a call for better public toilet provision in the capital. London’s lack of toilets is a serious public health concern and it is already disadvantaged groups of Londoners such as those with health conditions requiring more frequent visits to the toilet that are most affected. We look forward to working with them in the campaign. They are sending a speaker to our AGM on 17 April to outline the campaign’s work.
Young at Heart
We recently gave a short presentation to this local older people’s group and look forward to working with them again in the future.
