About us
The Kilburn and West Hampstead Pensioners Action Association (KWHP) was set up in the late 1990s. We hold monthly meetings and discuss a wide variety of topics. These include meetings on current issues, services and activities for older people and talks or presentations about local history.
We also campaign on local, regional and national issues. These recently included raising with one of our local MPs our disappointment about the cutting of the winter fuel allowance for most older people. We are concerned about transport issues, including buses and bus stops, provision of train and underground services and making stations accessible. Publicly accessible toilets is another major area of concern. We also worked with many other local groups over the planning issues around the O2 site development.
As a small, self-funded community group we believe that partnership work is very important. We are represented at the One Kilburn meetings and the Brent Pensioners Forum.
We received a National Lottery Awards for All grant in 2024 which enabled us to have our own equipment to help run our activities.
We are affiliated to the National Pensioners Convention.
As well as meetings, we have occasional visits to local theatres and museums, and (for members only) an annual fish & chips lunch.
Our meetings are open to everyone (even younger people). We have a raffle at each meeting (£1 per ticket) and membership costs £5 per year. Our AGM is held in April each year.
